The complete requirements-to-issuance contract
The current MiPLUS application may request additional identity, disclosure, or supporting documents based on the applicant's circumstances.
Age and character
An applicant must be at least 18 years old. The application includes character and disclosure questions that must be answered accurately; additional records may be required depending on the applicant's circumstances. A person concerned about past conduct can review the current LARA Preliminary Determination of Character process before investing in education and examination. It is not a license and not a guarantee of final approval — applicants must still complete the licensing process.
Education
40 clock hours of approved prelicensure education, including at least 4 hours of civil-rights law and equal opportunity in housing, completed within 36 months before the initial application. See the course guide.
MiPLUS application
Submitted online, with the course-completion certificate and the current $88 application and three-year license fee. See the application guide.
PSI examination
Scheduled only after LARA authorization and a Candidate ID. See the exam guide.
Post-pass employing-broker entry and approval
After passing, the applicant enters the employing broker's 10-digit license number through MiPLUS Modification. The license is issued only once the broker approves the relationship.
What is not a standard requirement here
A high-school diploma or GED requirement, a Michigan residency requirement, a standard fingerprint step, and a standard background-check step are not listed in the current salesperson licensing guide or the official MiPLUS walkthrough, and are not published here as requirements. Confirm directly with LARA if your specific situation raises any of these questions.
