How to verify a Michigan real estate license
The authoritative sources for license status are the current MiPLUS Verify a License tool and the Michigan State License Search. A course-completion certificate, a MiPLUS application status, and a PSI result are each real but distinct records — none of them is the license itself.
A. Course-completion certificate
Proof of education. Not a license, and not visible on the official license lookup as a license record.
B. MiPLUS application status
Reflects where a licensing transaction stands — submitted, incomplete, approved to test, and so on. Not proof of issuance by itself.
C. PSI result
An examination result. Not a license, and does not by itself trigger issuance.
D. Issued salesperson license
The authoritative public license record, including status and expiration information where shown.
E and F. Employing broker and "No Employer" status
The employing broker relationship is required for salesperson issuance and for compensated practice. "No Employer" status may appear after an employer removes the salesperson; it does not authorize compensated salesperson activity and is not an official "escrow license" category.
G. Transfer / Modification
Changing brokers is handled through the current MiPLUS Modification workflow. The salesperson enters or changes broker information, the new broker approves as required, and the salesperson cannot be licensed to more than one broker at once.
H. Active-employee and license reports
The official LARA license lists and reports, along with MiPLUS verification tools, are useful supporting records for confirming an active roster or a specific license's status.
If your records conflict — for example, your MiPLUS transaction shows one status but the public license record shows another — check both directly and contact LARA rather than assuming the difference is routine processing.
