LARA
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) is the state department overseeing the regulatory system for real estate licensing, among many other professions.
Bureau of Professional Licensing
Within LARA, the Bureau of Professional Licensing handles licensing operations: applications, fees, records, MiPLUS administration, and operational enforcement functions.
Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons
The Board has statutory functions involving professional standards, rules, and disciplinary matters as provided by law. It is distinct from BPL's day-to-day licensing operations and is not the MiPLUS software operator.
Approved school
An approved school provides the 40-hour education and the course-completion certificate. It does not issue the license.
MiPLUS
MiPLUS is the platform for application, Modification, renewal, relicensure, and related licensing transactions. It is not the examination vendor.
PSI
PSI handles examination registration and delivery after LARA authorization. PSI does not approve the initial license by itself.
Employing broker
The employing broker approves the post-pass employment relationship required for the salesperson license to be issued.
CE Marketplace
CE Marketplace is an education-tracking aid. It is not LARA, not MiPLUS, and not the public license record; licensees remain responsible for their own records and certification.
