Three distinct out-of-state situations
Which path applies depends entirely on your current circumstances.
Path 1 — Out-of-state resident applying for a Michigan salesperson license
An out-of-state address is permitted. Submit the current Consent to Service of Process, and follow the standard Michigan education, MiPLUS, PSI, broker-approval, and issuance sequence described in the hub, unless LARA grants a specific current exception for your situation.
Path 2 — Applicant already licensed in another state
The current salesperson licensing guide provides an out-of-state-resident application path, not a clearly identified reciprocal or endorsement shortcut. Prior licensure in another state does not automatically transfer, does not automatically grant course credit, does not automatically waive the exam, and does not automatically exempt an applicant from the national portion of the exam content. Obtain a current written determination from LARA before relying on prior licensure to shortcut any part of the Michigan process.
Path 3 — Moving or changing broker after Michigan issuance
This is a MiPLUS employing-broker Modification/transfer issue, not a reciprocity question. See the lookup guide for how transfer and "No Employer" status work.
Standard-path fallback
Absent a specific current exception confirmed directly with LARA, the conservative assumption is that any applicant — in-state or out-of-state, newly licensed elsewhere or not previously licensed at all — follows the standard Michigan education, MiPLUS application, PSI examination, and broker-approval sequence.
