How the Application Works
Unlike some states where candidates apply directly, New Jersey requires your sponsoring broker of record to submit the original salesperson or broker-salesperson application online, using the current original-application workflow. This ties your application directly to the broker who will supervise you once licensed.
What You Need Ready
- PSI exam passed before eligibility expires.
- Completed fingerprint-based background check through IDEMIA.
- A sponsoring broker willing to file the application on your behalf.
- The current fee and required information for the Broker of Record workflow.

Application dependency checklist
Confirm each dependency with the sponsoring broker and official workflow before submission.
- Fingerprint results not yet on file when the broker attempts to submit.
- PSI eligibility record expired before the application was filed.
- Missing or mismatched identity documentation between the fingerprint record and the application.
- Sponsoring broker relationship not finalized before submission is attempted.
Checking status
Once the Broker of Record submits your original application, ask the broker for the submission confirmation and check the current NJDOBI online original-application workflow for status. If a delay seems unusual, contact NJREC directly rather than guessing.
